Fish have always been a motif Ellie is drawn to, a connection she traces back to her family roots in Chios, Greece, and the island’s deep relationship with the sea.
The first rendition of Ellie’s sardine pendant was formed by hand in precious metal clay. Later, as she developed her wax-carving skills in jewelry school, she revisited the design and hand-carved a new prototype in wax.
That original carving was molded by a caster in New York City, where each pendant is cast in sterling silver before returning to Ellie’s Connecticut studio to be finished by hand.
